Surreal art by cedric
Born into American 1990’s society with no real material problems, Cedric was given his name so he would not have to pick a pseudonym; it was intended that he become a playwright. The exposure to great writers as a child helped him gain a hatred for fiction, and gain a love for East European philosophers and painters. Cedric developed a surrealist style, his primary medium being oil paints, though he often works in mixed media.
As Cedric aged, he noted that the purpose of education was to be disciplined. Past the introductory courses, there was nothing more he could learn. Cedric attended Universities, but dropped out half-way through his BFA for painting. It appeared to him that, in order to understand contemporary art, one needed an art education. Thus leaving it to the upper classes. He decided that art should be for the everyday person. No one should need a degree to understand it. Cedric swayed from the realm of abstraction; for the education requirements, and for the lack of technical skill.
A R T I S T S T A T E M E N T: This series has drawn a large influence from my past artwork. I realize now; that the separate stylistic choices I have made, was merely training. This series combines the techniques that I have learned. All the commercial styles that I have approached, and pure experimentation. Each painting is started off by arbitrarily picking space scenes and alignments. I then divide up the scene purely based on intuition. The color choices are made on the spot. After alternating through each painting at each different stage. Allowing the oils to dry, I return to the pieces individually. Adding more details, and glazes increasing the aesthetic quality. I love every minute of it.

Cut Leaf Artworks by Lorenzo Duran
Precision Cut Leaf Artworks by Lorenzo Duran
Lorenzo Manuel Durán is an artist from Cáceres, Spain. It wasn’t until 2005, at the age of 36, that Durán would fully pursue his passion for art and nature. Starting with more traditional oil paintings, he found himself inspired one day by a caterpillar eating a leaf. The moment propelled him to try cutting a leaf with a scalpel. That was 200,8 and the rest is history.
Through a lengthy process of trial and error, Durán has developed his own leaf-cutting technique, taking great care not to ‘spoil’ the leaf during the cutting process. His main tools are a surgical scalpel and dental-pointed device that helps him remove the cut parts from the leaf. Most of his ‘canvases’ are collected from areas right around where he lives/works.
Having completed both group and solo exhibits in the last few years, Lorenzo shares his work on his own website as well as Facebook. Below you will find a small selection of his intriguing artwork.
